New major partnership with Gold Fields supports WA Museum in the regions

02 Aug 2024

Gold mining company Gold Fields has entered into a major three-year partnership with the Western Australian Museum and the Foundation for the WA Museum. Gold Fields will be the Presenting Partner of two significant projects focused on the WA Museum’s regional museum sites: the Aboriginal Bush Food & Medicine Garden at the Museum of the Goldfields in Kalgoorlie, and Digital Audio Guides for all four regional museum locations in Western Australia.

The new partners announced the funding at an event held at Boola Bardip on Thursday night.

Alec Coles, Chief Executive Officer of the WA Museum said:

“Our regional museums sit at the heart of their communities, sharing a plethora of stories featuring the people and places of our State. The importance of gold and gold mining to WA can hardly be over-stressed, and so the partnership with Gold Fields is a natural one. However, it goes deeper than that, because the aspirations of our respective organisations are surprisingly similar, with a real focus on investing in communities, both now and in the future.”

“With Gold Fields’ support, we are able to share more collections, knowledge and stories with museum visitors in Kalgoorlie, Geraldton, Albany and Carnarvon.”

Coralie Bishop, the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation for the WA Museum spoke of the importance of the partnership.

“We look forward to working with Gold Fields over the coming three years and seeing the outcomes of this new partnership take shape.

“The expanded Aboriginal Bush Food & Medicine Garden as well as the Digital Audio Guides will provide exciting new opportunities for WA Museum visitors to explore and share their identity, culture, environment and sense of place,” said Ms Bishop.

Gold Fields employees, representing all Australian operations joined CEO Mike Fraser and other members of Gold Fields’ community to celebrate the partnership.

Speaking at the event Gold Fields’ CEO Mike Fraser spoke of the alignment of values between the organisations.

“At Gold Fields, we live by our purpose to create enduring value beyond mining. We are proud of our partnerships across Western Australia and indeed around the world as we work closely with our host communities to deliver programs that will make a meaningful difference,” he said.

"We are thrilled to be supporting such an iconic Western Australian organisation that is focused on telling Western Australian stories through its diverse voices,” said Mr Fraser.
