Shaping Tomorrow: Future-proofing WA for the Next Generation

The need for governments, businesses, nonprofits and academia to think and plan for the future has never been greater. As we face complex environmental, economic, and social challenges, how can we secure a sustainable future for future generations?

On 28 April 2025, Sophie Howe, the first Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, Professor Peter Klinken AC, Chief Scientist of Western Australia and Kate Kirwin, 2024 WA Young Australian of the Year will explore the concept of a Future Generations Act for Western Australia, moderated by Dominique Mecoy OAM, Leadership WA Chief Executive Officer. 

Presented by the Western Australian Museum, Foundation for the WA Museum and Forrest Research Foundation.

FameLab 2024 National Final

On 26 September 2024, twelve early career researchers - Australia’s top up-and-coming science communicators - battled it out to be crowned the FameLab Australia 2024 winner.

How does it work? No slides. No PowerPoint. No boring.

To excel in FameLab, competitors need to communicate their research in simple, everyday language that everyone can understand, and do it in just three minutes. They are judged on the 3 Cs of FameLab: content, clarity, and charisma.

On 28 August 2024, the Foundation for the WA Museum presented Katherine Bennell-Pegg as the 2024 Ngalang Koort ("Our heart") Conversations speaker. In conversation with Sinead Mangan, Katherine explored why space matters to Australia and why Australia needs to play an active role in space exploration.

Ngalang Koort Conversations - A.C. Grayling

On 15 November 2023, the first Ngalang Koort Conversations speaker, A. C. Grayling, explored the topic Will AI be humankind’s ‘last invention’? in conversation with Robyn Owens, a mathematician and pioneering computational vision scientist.

The conversation, followed by a Q&A session, was held at Hackett Hall, WA Museum Boola Bardip.
