Education expert Shane McGurk has joined the Board of the Foundation for the WA Museum.
Shane holds a Master's Degree in Education and is a company director and co-founder of Next Learning. He brings to the Foundation over 40 years of experience delivering education in the private and public sectors in national, international, and online learning environments.
In addition to holding leadership roles at prestigious schools in Australia and the UK, Shane has worked with the University of Western Australia to produce content and design advice for educational software. Through his combination of communication skills and expertise in technology, he has pioneered the use of applications in teaching and learning within diverse learning environments. Shane is currently an Apple Professional Learning Specialist.
The Town of Cottesloe recognised his commitment to community involvement and named him its 2022 Citizen of the Year.
“The WA Museum is such an important hub for education, learning and outreach activities – the majority of students in Western Australia will remember visiting at least one of the WA Museum sites. I look forward to using my experience to help the Foundation enable the WA Museum to reach even more people, particularly our younger ones, with their education, learning and outreach program”, said Shane McGurk.
After six years of active contributions to the Foundation Board as well as the Investment Committee in her capacity as Chair, Kate Budiselik has resigned from the Foundation Board and her role as the Investment Committee, and is succeeded by James McClements as Acting Chair of the Investment Committee. He is joined on the Investment Committee by Foundation Chair Anna Shave and external (non-Director) committee members Ben Laird and Bruce Tomlinson.
Ben has over 20 years of experience in equity capital markets in corporate finance and funds management. Ben is currently the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) for a family office, advising on matters ranging from asset allocation to assessing individual investment opportunities across all major asset classes. He is also a CFA Charterholder.
Bruce is a highly skilled financial service executive with a track record of building global fund and asset portfolios as well as building high performing global investment teams. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, has held roles at AMP Capital, Sunsuper Pty Ltd and Australian Retirement Trust, as well as ongoing director and investment committee roles. He is currently the Investment Director for the Minderoo Foundation.
Foundation Chair Anna Shave commented, “I am extremely pleased to welcome Shane to the Foundation Board. Shane will provide invaluable education and technology knowledge as our Board continues to work closely with the WA Museum team. I would also like to welcome Ben and Bruce, the two new external appointees to our Investment Committee, both of whom bring a wealth of global investment experience and insights.”
“On behalf of the entire Board, I would like to thank Kate for her diligent and active contribution to the Foundation Board and Investment Committee, and as a significant donor to the WA Museum’s International Exhibition Fund. During her time on the Board and chairing the Investment Committee, Kate was instrumental in establishing and overseeing the Investment Committee’s investment strategy for the Discovery Endowment Fund. This enabled our Discovery Endowment Fund to grow to the point where a significant grant can be distributed to the WA Museum each year.”
